Worth Reading

Why are calls being cut off? What's causing the noise on the line? What causes those phantom rings?

C. Jonathan Lewis, a U.S. telephone technician, has written a genuinely useful 40-page booklet called The Telephone Trouble Shooting Desk Reference. It might have been titled "What to check before you call Repair, and what to tell them if you do call." It's a brief guide to dealing with common phone problems, written in plain English for non-techies who occasionally have to solve phone problems.

At US $4.50 a copy, it's a bargain, worth getting for every small office and branch. It may be less useful in large sites, particularly those in which many of the issues are specific to the type of PBX in use.
